Wednesday 2/1/12 - FOX Wins the Night with Original Episodes of American Idol and Mobbed
FOX won the night across broadcast and cable among A18-49, driven by an original episode of American Idol (4.45 Live A18-49 rating). Despite garnering the highest Live A18-49 rating of the evening, the reality show posted a 12% decline week-to-week, while experiencing even greater losses (-37%) compared to YAG. Following a much stronger lead-in than its previous airing on 01/11/12, Mobbed (2.53) more than doubled its A18-49 viewership, while garnering solid gains (+11%) compared to YAG.
Landing in a distant second place, CBS featured a mix of repeat and original programming. While airing repeats of Criminal Minds (1.99) and CSI (1.47) at 9PM and 10PM, the network opened the night with a Super Bowl Greatest Commercials special at 8PM (1.87), which retained nearly all of its A18-49 audience from last year's telecast on 02/04/11.
Univision's schedule of the series debut of El Talisman and new episodes of Que No Podia Amar and Dale Con Ganas spurred the network to a third place finish among A18-49 Wednesday night, ranking ahead of ABC's Wednesday night repeat line-up of The Middle (1.12), Suburgatory (1.12), Modern Family (2.31), Happy Endings (1.75) and Revenge (0.86).
Similar to CBS, NBC also scheduled a mix or repeat and original programs last night. Followed by back-to-back repeats of Law & Order: SVU at 9PM (1.05) and 10PM (1.51), new episodes of Whitney (1.20) and Are You There Chelsea? (1.29) posted similar gains (+12% and +13%, respectively) among A18-49 week-to-week.
Finishing in a distant last place across broadcast, both of The CW's programs, One Tree Hill (0.43) and Remodeled (0.26), experienced declines among A18-49 from their previous episodes, with the former falling 12% versus last week, while the latter, in its newly recloated time-slot, suffered a greater drop-off (-33%).
