Sunday 1/15/12 – NBC’s Golden Globes No Match for NFL Playoff Overrun on FOX
Garnering over 15 million Live total viewers and featuring returning host Rick Gervais, the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards reported a 4.28 Live A18-49 rating, though declined 6% from last year's ceremony, securing only second place for NBC.
FOX easily won the night among A18-49, powered by an NFC divisional game overrun between the New York Giants and Green Bay Packers, leading into The Simpsons (4.83), which more than doubled last week's A18-49 audience. Scheduled for 8:30pm, the series premiere of Napoleon Dynamite (3.95) significantly improved over the previous time period debut of Allen Gregory (+81%) on 10/30/11, while Family Guy (3.85) jumped 48% from its last original. A Napoleon Dynamite special (3.11) rounded out the night, losing 21% of its premiere audience.
CBS edged past ABC for third place among A18-49 with new episodes of 60 Minutes (1.25) and The Good Wife (1.55) suffering significant declines week-to-week. The third season premiere of Undercover Boss (2.61) at 8pm was CBS' highest rated program of the night with A18-49, despite losing one quarter of its audience from the season two opener on 9/26/10. The eye network ended the evening with a repeat of CSI: Miami (1.48) at 10pm.
Even with strong competition from FOX and NBC, ABC rolled out an all original lineup of America's Funniest Home Videos (1.13), Once Upon A Time (2.41), Desperate Housewives (2.01) and Pan Am (1.01) with Desperate Housewives reporting the heaviest decline (-11%) from week ago.
