Thursday 12/15/11 - CBS Beats NFL Network's Thursday Night Football

While opening the night with a repeat of The Big Bang Theory (2.60 A18-49 Live Rating) at 8PM, CBS featured original airings throughout the remainder of its schedule, including new episodes of Rules of Engagement (2.20), Person of Interest (2.28) and The Mentalist (2.34), which helped the network average the largest A18-49 audience last night, despite the former and latter both experiencing viewership declines from a week ago.

Although FOX's Live episode of the X Factor (2.37) results show remained at similar A18-49 ratings levels from last week, it was still not enough to help FOX achieve a broadcast win for the night among A18-49. X Factor, combined with a repeat of Bones, landed the network in second place overall with the demo last night.

Continuing with its special programming, ABC kicked off the night with a special repeat of A Charlie Brown Christmas (1.71), followed by a two-hour special airing of The Year With Katie Couric (1.36), which displayed a 34% A18-49 viewership drop from ABC's Barbara Walters special on 12/14/11.

With the NFL Network hosting its fifth week of Thursday Night Football (1.49), last night's game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons declined 39% compared to last week's match-up between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers, only managing a fifth place finish for the night across the TV landscape among A18-49.

NBC chose to run repeats of its two-hour Thursday night comedy block last night. Burning off the remainder of its episodes, the only original program to air on NBC last night, Prime Suspect (0.72), posted a double-digit percentage decline among A18-49 (-41%) from its last original airing on 12/01/11.

Over on The CW, the network featured an all repeat schedule for the fifth consecutive week, with its lineup of Vampire Diaries (0.30) and The Secret Circle (0.25) trailing significantly behind its broadcast competition.
