It is always difficult to go first but NBC launched the 2006/07 Upfront season with its programming announcements yesterday afternoon. NBC's new look includes sports on their prime schedule with the addition of Sunday night football during the 4th quarter. As referenced earlier, NBC will embrace a 360 approach to programming delivering all of their programs across multiple platforms that will reach different people in different places on different devices.
10 NEW entries with 12 RETURNING Series
TP CHANGES: My Name is Earl and The Office move down to jumpstart the 8 o'clock hour for NBC's Must See TV on Thursdays. Law & Order: Criminal Intent moves from Sunday to Friday at 10PM. The NFL has a new home this fall and will be a positive addition to Sunday's lineup during the fourth quarter. Series programming returns in January of 2007 with The Apprentice moving to this night. Scrubs and Crossing Jordan while not on the 4th quarter schedule are being held back for mid-season replacements.
Strategy: There is a new look and feel to NBC. As the network rebounds from several challenging seasons it moves into this Upfront with a renewed focus. The network will concentrate on building just 5 nights of programming during the 4th quarter. The lineup is packed with a significant amount of dramas and two new comedies joining the two returning comedies. Reality will continue to play a significant role in both the fourth and first quarters with The Biggest Looser and The Apprentice both slated to return. Deal or No Deal which has been a tremendous hit for the network returns on two nights, Monday's and Friday's at 8PM.
